Chrome and Firefox Extension Sign-In Issues

The Chrome and Firefox extensions use Apple’s iCloud website when Connection Mode is set to iCloud. You may encounter one of these issues:

  • The sign-in session ends quickly, requiring you to sign in multiple times a day.
  • Signing in succeeds, but the extension returns to the sign-in screen.
  • The extension displays an authentication error.

Try Signing In Again

When signing in to your Apple ID:

  1. Select Keep me signed in.
  2. Enter your Apple ID email address and password instead of using a passkey or another sign-in method.

Some sign-in methods may not retain the Keep me signed in option. The sign-in process happens entirely on Apple’s website, and Apple determines how long the session lasts.

Advanced Data Protection

If Advanced Data Protection is enabled for your iCloud account, you may not be able to sign in to iCloud on the web. This may continue even if you disable Advanced Data Protection later.

Reinstalling the extension or clearing your browser data will not resolve this limitation. If you use the extension on the same Mac as GoodLinks, switch it to API mode instead.

Switch to API Mode

API mode saves links directly to the GoodLinks app and does not require signing in to iCloud from the browser.

API mode requires GoodLinks 3.2 or later. The GoodLinks app must be running on the same Mac as the browser.

To set up API mode:

  1. Open GoodLinks on your Mac.
  2. Open Settings > API.
  3. Turn on API Server, then copy the API Token.
  4. Open the extension’s Options or Preferences page.
    • In Chrome, Arc, Edge, Opera, or Brave, right-click the extension icon and choose Extension Options.
    • In Firefox, open the extension’s settings and choose Preferences.
  5. Change Connection Mode to API.
  6. Paste the token into API Token.
  7. Select Test Connection.

The extension displays API is available when the connection succeeds.

If API Mode Cannot Connect

Check that:

  • GoodLinks is running on the same Mac as the browser.
  • API Server is enabled in GoodLinks under Settings > API.
  • The API token in the extension matches the token shown in GoodLinks.

After checking these settings, select Test Connection again.

Using the Extension on Windows or Another Computer

API mode only works when the extension and GoodLinks are running on the same Mac. It cannot connect to GoodLinks from Windows or another computer.
